A native of Belgium, became one of England's leading sculptors during the first half of the 18th century, executing works such as an acclaimed bust of British General George Hamilton, 1st Earl of Orkney (now on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London) and the equestrian statue of King William III of Orange, located at Queens Square in Bristol.
