Thief River Falls - Floyd Klopp, 74, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Erskine.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.

Casket bearers included members of the Military Honor Guard. Military honors were provided by American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793.?Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Floyd Harvey Klopp was born May 19, 1934 in Clearbrook, the son of Christian Christ and Hilda (Holst) Klopp. He grew up in Thief River Falls, where he attended school, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1952.

He served his country in the United States Army from November 29, 1956 to November 22, 1958. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, where he worked at the Ford Plant for two years. Floyd moved back to Thief River Falls and started a career of working for the Soo Line Railroad, where he traveled the area, ending up in Fond Du Lac, Wis.

In 1966, Floyd was united in marriage to Carolyn Marie Schwenn in Fond Du Lac, Wis.? The couple moved to Goodridge, for a short time and then moved into Thief River Falls.

He married Carol Tabatt, May 18, 1991.? Floyd worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 38 years as an engineer, retiring in 1994.

Floyd held membership in the Thief River Falls Eagles, American Legion, VFW and Soo Line Veterans. He liked to fish, travel and read, especially history. He also liked going to the farmstead.

He is survived by wife, Carol, Thief River Falls; children, Christine (Lance) Figgins, Grand Rapids, Heidi Sourdif, Roseau, and William (Wendy) Klopp, Thief River Falls; stepchildren, Christine (Christopher) Reak, East Grand Forks, and Cynthia (Monte) Graff, Greenbush; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild, James; a sister, Alice Aase, Port Orchard, Wash.; two brothers, David (Barbara) Klopp and Donald Klopp, all of Thief River Falls; and nine nieces and nephews.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
