Prudence was born in 1849 to Spencer Murphy Aleton Gray Wesley and Sarah M. Thedford Harris. She is listed on the 1850, 1860, 1870 U.S. Census, Panola County, Texas. The 1880 Census shows Prudence is in Falls County, Texas and indicates both of her parents were born in Tennessee.

John W., Prudence's husband, died on July 13, 1896 and was buried in Waldrop Cemetery, Panola County, Texas. On August 10, 1899 Mary P. Dixon made application for John W.'s CSA Widow's Pension. Her application showed her post office to be Pine Hill, Panola County, Texas. This application was rejected.

On the 1900 U.S. Census Prudence is in Panola County, Texas, widowed, a farmer owning her farm free of mortgage; she reported having 11 children with 7 living. January 22, 1904 Prudence again applied for John W.'s CSA Widow's Pension, and it was granted.

In 1920 Prudence is in Pine Hill, Rusk County, Texas and living with her son, John Howard Dixon and his family.

Prudence is believed to be buried beside John W. in Waldrop Cemetery.
