Larry George Carlton was born on February 13, 1946 in Mt. Dora, Florida. He left in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rodie Lee Sikes Carlton and a brother, Jimmy Carlton. He is survived by his loving wife, MaryLou Carlton of Claxton; daughter, Jennifer Dill of Claxton; sons, Christopher and Brian Johnson both of New York; brother, Bobby Hardemon of Florida; grandchildren, Victoria Mardis of New York, Killian Darden and Wyatt Dill both of Claxton; Skyler and Kele Johnson both of Florida and Kailey Darden of Claxton who shared an especially close bond with Larry; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Salvatore and Cecelia DeBella of Florida and Ron Bloom of New York; several nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Mallorie Ray and Mindy Lynch both of Florida; several cousins including Tommy Palmer of Statesboro and Jackie Smith and Judy of Florida.
Larry was a highly decorated US Army Veteran receiving many awards including Meritorious Service Medal (1st OLC) and the Vietnam Service Medal (10 CMPNS).He served three tours in Vietnam and retired after twenty two years of service. He later retired from Gulf Stream Aerospace in Savannah. He loved anything and everything regarding sports and was looking forward to this year's Super Bowl and the Winter Olympic Games. He was outstanding in high school Athletics and was an amateur Florida Diver. Larry enjoyed spending time with his pets. He also participated in country dance competitions winning several awards.
He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was their "Pop" and he loved them with all his heart. He will be missed and remembered by many.
Memorial funeral services will be conducted 5:30pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, the day before his 68th birthday, from the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marty Walker officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Army.
