Uchello, a native of Gretna, La., was the son of Italian immigrant farmers, who moved to the Coast more than 60 years ago and became a self-made businessman.
Uchello first opened The Grove nightclub at the corner of DeBuys Road and U.S. 90, and later opened the Harbor Light Restaurant, which was destroyed by Hurricane Camille. He built the Sun Tan Motel, still in operation today on U.S. 90.
Uchello was a Roman Catholic and a parishioner at Nativity B.V.M. He was a charter member of the Sunkist Country Club and the Italian American Society. He was also a member of Elks Club No. 606 of Biloxi, and was an avid recreational fisherman.
