Samuel K Rinard was the son of John Rinard and Nancy Rea. His parents were married on 5 February 1824 in Washington County, Ohio. Father John was a farmer.

Samuel married Ann Greenlee on 14 May 1858 in Wayne County, Iowa.. They were living in Washington Township in Wayne County, Iowa, in 1860 along with daughter Nancy Alice, age 9 months where Samuel was a farmer. Samuel and Nancy had three more children, Hannah, John and Ida before Nancy's death in 1866.

Samuel married Matilda Sherman, the widow of Henry Shell on 12 Jan 1867 in Wayne County. Matilda had three children by her first marriage, Rosa, Hannah and Nevada. Samuel and Matilda together had three children, Samuel H, Edgar Sherman and Leonard Cook.

In 1880 Samuel was still listed as a farmer but in 1900 he gave Capitalist as his occupation. Matilda died in 1903 and Samuel then married Isabella Hancock, the widow of Alva Barr on 17 November 1904 in Washington County, Ohio. Samuel gave farmer as his occupation.

In 1910 Samuel reported he was living on his own means. Living in the household with Samuel and Isabella was her daughter Frances A Barr. The family was residing in Washington County, Ohio.
