AMES, Iowa - Bonnie J. (Graham) Harmon, Ames, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer, at home, with her loving family present.Bonnie was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Nashville, Tenn., the daughter of Robert A. and Shirley (Dredge) Graham. She married Bruce Harmon on June 28, 1969, at St. Mary's Chapel in Knoxville, Ill.Bonnie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Bruce; two children, Dion Harmon (Michele), New York City, N.Y., and Alyssa Harmon (Morgan Conklin), Flagstaff, Ariz.; a grandson, Charles Bruce Harmon; a sister, Martha (John) Boro, Omaha, Neb.; her mother, Shirley Graham, Galesburg; sister-in-law, Paula Graham, Knoxville, Ill.; nephews, Michael (Jaime) Graham, Tyler Joel Graham, Christopher (Heather) Graham, and Joseph (Chelsie) Boro. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, December 2010; and brother, Joel Graham, Oct. 1, 2008.She graduated from Galesburg High School with the class of 1964 and graduated from ISU in Normal in 1968. She earned her master's degree in literature while her husband, Bruce, obtained his doctorate degree in physics. They moved to Ames in 1973.She taught school one year in Villa Park, Ill., then worked at an architectural firm in Evanston, Ill. She worked for the ISU Engineering College as a secretary, and for the ISU Press, as a freelance editor.She was a member of Galesburg First Christian Church, active in the choir and bell choir during her grade and high school years. She joined St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames when the children attended catholic school.Bonnie had many talents and interests that included sewing, knitting, ethnic cooking, photography, making jewelry, woodworking, landscaping, the ISU Butterfly House, feeding and watching the birds, reading, traveling and her family.The family lived in Karlsruhe, Germany, a year, 1980-81, and Grenoble, France, eight months in 1990. Bruce and Bonnie were in Risco, Denmark, the summer of 1976 and had two to four weeks extended travels in France, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Italy and Hawaii.A celebration of life will be at noon March 22, at the Unitarian Fellowship in Ames, Iowa.Memorials may be made to the ISU Foundation (Reiman Gardens and Butterfly House); Homeward Hospice, Ames, Iowa; or Galesburg First Christian Church.
