Mr. Etzel was retired. He had been a truck driver for the Pasten Wine Co. in New England many years and earlier was a truck driver for the Morrell Meat Packing Co. in Topeka. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Etzel was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roslindale.
He was born June 7, 1916 in Topeka, the son of Joseph and Mary Schmidt Etzel.
He was married to Eleanor M. Masiglia. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Patricia Etzel, Dalrymple Warhurst, Rose Marie Perry and Joan Jolley, all of Topeka; three sisters, Mary Etzel and Rose Lee, both of Topeka, and Irene Bonavich, Rodeo, Calif.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in West Roxbury section of Boston. Russo Funeral Home in Suffolk County, Mass., is in charge.
