SPARTA, Ill. – Julia May Smith Barker, 78, of Sparta, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in a Sparta nursing home.

Born May 27, 1925, at Russellville, Ala., she was the daughter of William Henry Smith and Dellar Britnell Smith. She was retired from Swift Independent Packing Company near St. Louis, Ill., and was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include three brothers, Foster Smith of Warren, Felix Smith of Cave City and Pete Smith of Melbourne; a sister, Annette Qualls of Percy, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George L. Smith, Lushen Smith and Merdie Smith; and a sister, Genora Powers.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Mike Ring officiating. Burial will be in the Maxville Cemetery near Cave City.

Pallbearers will be Mike Ashley, Tim Stroud, Tim Smith, Warren Smith, Larry Smith and Daniel Smith.
