Mrs. A. Maurine Baker, 82, of St. Vincent's Home, formerly of 2925 Helen Court, Quincy, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday (February 16, 2009) in the home.

Born May 5, 1926 in Versailles, IL, Maurine was a daughter of Ray and Ethelyn Ransom Shinnebarger. She married Joseph Baker on June 30, 1951 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Quincy. He survives.

Maurine was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She loved to bird watch and enjoyed gardening.

She was a caregiver for 15 years and later was a cook for the Quincy Country Club for 15 years until her retirement in 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph of Quincy; a daughter, Dena Hughs and her husband Kevin of Quincy; a son, Bernard Baker and his wife Bonnie of Quincy; one grandson, Bernard Baker Jr. and his wife Betsy of Indianapolis, IN; one step-grandson, Carl Hughs and his wife Dianna of Clarksville, TN; a great-granddaughter, Kathryn "Kitty" Baker of Indianapolis, IN; a step great-grandson, Tyler Hughs of Clarksville, TN; a sister-in-law, Maxine Gengenbacher and her husband Charles of Quincy; and a cousin, Betty Ellison of Quincy. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lucille Beard and Sheila Storck; and one nephew, Michael Lohman.

Graveside services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. James Wheeler officiating.

There is no visitation but friends and family are invited to the graveside service.

Masses may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church.
