FRED MERTENS (d. 1927)
After a lingering illness, Fred Mertens, 69, who has resided in this city all his life, with the exception of a short time that he lived at Shoto, passed away this afternoon at the family home, 1604 Twenty-first street. The deceased had been employed in various local plants up to within six years ago, when he retired to private life. His wife died several years ago.
Three daughters, Mrs. Irving Meinecke, Chicago, Mrs. Roderick Owens and Mrs.R.E. Klinkner, both of this city, four sons, William B., Fred, Arthur and Norman and one stepson, John Goetgen, and 11 grandchildren survive. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Fred Luecke and Mrs. Charles Miller of Manitowoc, and Mrs. William Robinson of California, and three brothers, William, John and Henry, all of this city.
The body will be at the Beduhn and Goetz chapel on Sunday and Monday and burial will take place Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home on Twenty-first street, and at 2:00 o'clock from the St. John's Lutheran church.

BURIAL THIS AFTERNOON
The funeral of the late Fred Mertens Sr., who passed away at his home, Twenty- first street, Friday afternoon, took place this afternoon, at 2 o'clock from the St. John's Lutheran church. Burial was at Pioneer's Rest.
