Jack Thompson, 77, of Marshalltown and formerly of Mahaska County passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Jack Leroy Thompson, son of Simon and Grace(Blake)Thompson, was born, March 21, 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He grew up in the Oskaloosa area and attended Oskaloosa High School. Jack married Lavoe Howard in 1955 and they later divorced. He joined the United States Army and served overseas in Korea. After his service in the military, Jack move to Moline, Illinois where he worked for almost 30 years in the John Deere foundry and as a security guard. He later moved back to the Mahaska county area where he sharpened saws and did small motor repair. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

His family includes his daughter, Jackie Minter, of Eddyville, Iowa; a son, Doug Thompson; two grandchildren, Trisha(Rob)Brewer and Bill(Holly)Ver Schuure; six great grandchildren: Andria Ver Schuure, Grace Brewer, Billy Ver Schuure, Emma Brewer, Bo Ver Schuure and Jack Brewer; three brothers: Bob(Lucille)Thompson Beacon, IA, Jerry(Sharon)Thompson of Oskaloosa and Howard(Ellen)Thompson of Oskaloosa; three sisters, Margaret Gorman of Kentucky, Peggy Bowman of East Moline, IL and Becky(Easman)Poe of Beacon; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, one brother, Rodger Thompson and one sister Grace Kennedy.

Graveside Services for Jack will be held at 2 pm , Friday afternoon, February 7, 2014, at the Beacon Cemetery with Pastor Dwayne Poe officiating. No visitation is planned. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
