She was a cosmetology student at Empire Beauty School in Savannah. Melinda worked with Dr. William C. Morgan, veterinarian, during her senior year at Southeast Bulloch High School. She graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1992. She went to Atlanta, where she received her master groomer degree. After schooling, she worked with other vets in Statesboro, the last being Dr. Barry Wolfe. Melinda loved animals all of her short life.
She is survived by her husband, Stacy L. Wilson of the Statesboro Fire Department; daughter, Selena Gayle Thompson of Brooklet; stepchildren, Diana Noble, Amber Wilson and Logan Wilson; father, Sidney J. Gillespie (Bonnie) of Dallas, N.C.; mother, Gale Barnard of Pembroke; sister, Constance E. Gillespie of Brooklet; brother, Sidney W. Gillespie of Bessemer City, N.C.; stepbrother, Gary Grant of Dallas, N.C.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Visitation will be held at Wood Funeral Home in Metter on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 6-8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Daisy, Ga.
Pallbearers will be SCMPD Joseph Bejnarowicz, ECFD #6626 Tommy M. Lewis, SFD #587 Anthony Le Federe, SFD #566 Brandon McCormick, SFD #568 Neal Lee and SFD #583 Jason Mongold.
