Elaine, daughter of Carl and Olivia (Christensen) Petersen, was born November 19, 1923 on the farm southeast of Fiscus in Audubon County, Iowa. She attended country school near there through the 2nd grade. The family moved southwest of Manning and Elaine attended Manning schools.

On January 23, 1941 Elaine was united in marriage with Harold A. Reinke at the Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage in Manning. Nine children were born to this union. The family eventually made their home in the house on Blaine Street that Harold's grandparents purchased when they came to America. In addition to being a busy homemaker, Elaine helped Harold operate his own salvage business for over 50 years. She rode with Harold on many trips to the salvage yard after their family was grown. Elaine also worked for a time at the Ohde Funeral Home and drove the school bus for Manning Community Schools. She enjoyed doing embroidery, fishing and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Elaine was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, including the Evening Circle. Above all, she loved her family and maintained a wonderful sense of humor through the years.

When Elaine could no longer live at home she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in the spring of 2013. Her family greatly appreciated the wonderful care she received there. Elaine died at the Plaza suddenly on Monday, February 3, 2014 at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 15 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold Reinke in 2013; and three brothers: one in infancy; Donald Petersen; and Carl Petersen (Mary Lou).

Elaine is survived by nine children: Roger Reinke of Arvada, CO; Mary Segebart (Dale) of Denison; Vergene Wallace (Tom) of Waterloo, NE; Karen Riesselman (Dave) of Lake View; Helen Avitt (Darrel) of Ankeny; Duane Reinke (Judy) of Ankeny; Donna Campbell (Allen) of Pueblo West, CO; Dale "Ernie" Reinke (Karen) of Manning; and Diane Reinke-Kendrick (Greg) of Mitchellville; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
