F/Sgt or WO Donald Arthur Gregg RAFVR, aged 21, took off from RAF Manston in Gloster Meteor EE226 to fly to High Halden, to take up his readiness duty, but unable to find the landing ground, he attempted to land at Great Chart Airfield and whilst doing so crashed. It was the first fatal accident to occur in a Meteor.
