Edward Maddocks is the third child of the Englishman and Port Tobacco merchant, Cornelius Maddocks, and his spouse, Mary Smallwood Maddocks. He was about fourteen years old when his father died in 1705. Edward and Mary settled in Durham Parish, Charles County, where they raised their children. Edward was eighty years old when he made his Will. He and descendants had also changed the spelling of his surname to Maddox by this time.
