Mrs. Finley was born in Monroe, NC on October 2, 1920 to William Joseph and Elizabeth English Heath. She was educated at Monroe High School in Monroe and Queens College in Charlotte.
Following WWII, she was employed at Monroe High School and U. S. Farm Security Administration in Union County and Wilkes County, NC.
In 1942, she married Edward S. Finley of North Wilkesboro. In 1947, they built their current home on Coffey Avenue in North Wilkesboro.
She was active in church, social, and civic affairs in North Wilkesboro. She was a member of several bridge clubs, enjoyed crafts, was a lover of dogs and flowers, and enjoyed the friendship of many. She was a member of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William J. Heath and Benjamin D. Heath; a sister, Margaret H. Culbertson. Survivors include husband, Edward S. Finley of the home; a son, Edward S. Finley, Jr. and wife Virginia of Raleigh; a daughter, Ann F. Reynolds and husband, Fairfax of Burlington; sister, Frances H. Henderson of Wilkesboro; brother, John E. Heath of Union, SC; five grandchildren, Edward D. Finley of Raleigh, Robert W. Finley of Big Corn Island, Nicaragua, Elizabeth H. Reynolds of Charlotte; Randolph F. Reynolds and wife, Jenny of Atlanta, GA, and Edward F. Reynolds of Burlington.
A memorial service was held at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church at 2:30 on Monday, August 4 with the Rev. Dr. Ben Trawick and the Rev. Joe C. McCutchen officiating. A private burial at Mountlawn Memorial Park preceded the service. Memorials may be made to North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 804 E. Street, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
