Mr. Bridges was born June 20, 1933 in Rutherford County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War. Bill was a member of Swannanoa Heights Missionary Baptist Church where he directed and led the choir for over 55 years and was Chairman of the Deacon Board.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Colin and Ruth Curtis Bridges; sister, Lillian Phillips and brothers, Kenneth and Junior Bridges.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gary Bridges; daughter, Becky Eggers (Charley) of Lake Wylie, SC; son, Ron Bridges (Ruth Anne) of Germantown, TN; sisters, Louise Walker of Black Mountain, Brenda Buckner of Swannanoa and Patsy Desmond of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Jordan Weakley (Nick) and Kelsey Bridges.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Swannanoa with the Reverends BB Boyle and Bruce Robinson officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
