A Service of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Marion Luther McKay Jr., 88, who passed away peacefully Sunday, February 2, 2014 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Lafayette.

Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and resumes Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 8:30 AM until the time of services.

Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Parson Ashley Sherard, of Jerusalem Christian Church in Lafayette, will officiate.

Marion was born Tuesday, October 6, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. M.L. McKay Sr., in Wichita Falls, Texas.

As a child, he grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. After high school, Marion went on to graduate from Texas Christian University. After college, he worked as a Geologist with Sinclair Oil & Gas in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as, in Tyler, Texas and Midland, Texas. He then went to Houston, Texas where Sinclair Oil & Gas merged with Atlantic Richfield and he worked as District Geologist for A.R.C.O. for 39 years. Marion moved to Lafayette in 1964 and retired on October 30, 1985. A proud veteran, Marion served in the United States Army Medical Corps during WWII.

Marion and his family became parishioners of First Christian Church in Lafayette when they moved to Lafayette, LA in 1964. He and his wife, Pauline, served the church in every conceivable way from mowing the grounds to serving as Chairman of the Board and everything in between. He loved his church family as he loved his own and being a Christian meant everything to him.

Marion is survived by his three sons, Michael Laurence McKay of Raleigh, NC, David Wayne McKay and his wife Lara McKay of Gainesville, FL and John Scott McKay and his wife Ginny McKay of Lafayette, LA; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one great-grandson Daxx Aiden McKay Thibodeaux and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and partner of 60 years, Pauline Redden McKay, his parents, Marion Luther McKay Sr. and Mabel Sterman McKay and his brother Donald Wayne McKay.
