Phil Brooks, 73 longtime resident of Liberal, Missouri passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Liberal Christian Church with Bob Dickey, officiating. Internment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Friends may sign the register book Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Bedene Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Shiloh Cemetery Fund and they may be left or mailed to Bedene Funeral Home, 517 East Washington, Arma, Kansas 66712.

Phil Brooks was born December 15, 1940 on the family farm in Barton County, Missouri the son of Raymond Brooks and Gladys (Smotherman) Brooks. He grew up in Mulberry, Kansas and Liberal, Missouri and attended both schools.

He was united in marriage to Alice Ann Beadles July 1, 1960 at Girard, Kansas and she preceded him in death October 21, 2006. He later was united in marriage to Teresa Wheeler June 2007 in Lamar, Missouri and she survives at the home.
Phil worked as a coal miner for Mackie Clemons and retired after many years of service. He also owned and operated The Gun Connection a sporting goods store in Liberal for many years. He was a member of the UMWA (United Mine Workers Association)and Liberal Christian Church.

His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, listening and playing bluegrass music and Nascar. He was known for telling jokes and stories and loved being around his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of the home, son Jeff Brooks and wife Kathy of rural Pittsburg, Kansas, two daughters, Kim Cannon of Joplin, Missouri, Kelli Brynds and husband Scott of Pittsburg, Kansas, brother, James Brooks and wife Claudia of Pittsburg, Kansas. Three Granddaughters, Katie Brynds, Kamri Brynds and Emily Brooks.
