James Preston Brown died at his home in Promise City, April 15, 1902, aged 39 years, 10 months, 8 days. Deceased was the son of John F and Martha E Brown. He was born near Bloomfield, Iowa, July 11, 1871. He grew to manhood in Davis County, his home for a number of years being at Drakesville, where he has a large circle of acquaintances who hold him in high esteem for his sterling qualities as a citizen, neighbor and friend. He was married to Miss Mary A Truitt, November 29, 1893, to them was born one child, a daughter. He leaves to mourn for him is wife, daughter, mother and sister who have the sympathy of people of this community.
He moved with his family to Promise City in April 1899, where he made many friend. The pastor at Promise City conducted a short service at the home April 16, after which the remains were removed to Drakesville, Iowa where the funeral took place from the M. E. church in the presence of a large congregation of relatives and friends on Friday, April 18,1902. Rev G. W. Barber, pastor M. E. church, conducting the service, after which he was buried by the Order of Modern Woodmen of America.
