Dorothy & her family moved to Shawnee in 1936. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1947. On September 21, 1948, Dorothy married Darrell Gene Norton in Romulus, OK. She & Gene were married over 66 years at the time of her death. The 2 of them were inseparable & faithful companions. They were members of the Central Church of Christ in Shawnee, OK & attended together for almost 60 years. Later Dorothy graduated from OBU Magna Cum Laude in 1968 with a degree in Education while raising 3 sons. Later in 1968 she started her teaching career at Horace Mann Elementary & then spent the next 24 years at Woodrow Wilson Elementary. She was well loved & respected by her students. She enjoyed teaching & gave it her all. Outside of her family & her faith in God her passion was teaching. Dorothy was selected "Teacher of the Year" in 1980. Dorothy furthered her education while attending Oklahoma State University & OU. Dorothy & Gene were faithful members of the Central Church of Christ where she taught various classes over the years. Dorothy was an avid sports fan & loved her OSU Cowboys. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening & various other hobbies. She served as President of the Shawnee Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota for 4 years and hosted the state convention in 1992. Most of all she relished her time with family & friends.
She was a blessing in this life & will be missed by all. Her services will be held at The Central Church of Christ at 1 P.M. Saturday February 1st, 2014.
