He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and came to Miami as a young child. He was an Army veteran of World War II in an artillery unit serving in the Pacific theater. He died at the age of 81 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, and was buried with military honors at Mountain Breeze Cemetery.

He was survived by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia; brothers, Carlos and Joe of California; sisters, Aurora Gerado and Vera Carrizosa of Miami; and numerous nieces and nephews.
