Actor. Best remembered for his portrayal of 'Nels Oleson', the kind proprietor of Oleson's Mercantile, on the long running television series "Little House on the Prairie" (1974 to 1983) and his portrayal of 'Doc' in the television show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (1964 to 1968). In a career that spanned over 50 years, he had more than 100 credits to his name. Credits include roles in televisions shows such as "Harrigan and Son", "Mission Impossible", "Mannix", "Gomer Pyle: USMC", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Family Affair", "The Partridge Family", "Death Valley Days", "Bonanza", "The Streets of San Francisco", "Barnaby Jones", "Hill Street Blues", "Highway to Heaven", and "Designing Women". Some film credits include "The Satan Bug", "Moonfire", The Stalking Moon", "Executive Action", "High Plains Drifter", "The Parallax View", and "Witless Protection". His last known role was in 2011 as an elderly farmer in the television show "Boss". He and his wife lived in Chicago for many years until they retired to the Motion Picture Television Fund campus in Woodland Hills, California a couple of years ago. It was here he passed away from natural causes at the age of 89.
