Rene is also known as Rene LeTertre dit DuTartre. He arrived in Quebec in 1661. Rene is on the Jean Trudel Monument, stating that he was one of the men present at the first mass held in L'Ange Gardien in 1664.

He married Louise Goulet on 9 August 1649, in France. They are the parents of the following (verified with PRDH):
1) Anne (1651-1696) md Jean Mathieu
2) Marie (abt 1655- ) md Mathurin Huot
3) Charles (abt 1657-1714) md Marie Maheu
4) Elisabeth (abt 1659-1720) md Guillaume Page dit Carcy
5) Barbe (1664-1750) md Nicolas Trudel
