VOLANT — Amy Suzanne Johnston, 50, of Volant (Springfield Township, Mercer County) passed away at her residence on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, suddenly due to natural causes.

She was born in New Castle on July 5, 1963, to Carter Thomas and Roxann Kay Snezick Johnston. She graduated from Wilmington Area High School and Lawrence County Votech in 1981. She was a certified nursing assistance, CNA and was a practicing home health care provider.

She enjoyed gardening and crafting. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her animals.

Survivors include her son, Logan Donald Gills of Mercer; her mother, Roxann Johnston of Volant, and father, Carter Johnston and his wife, Beverly, of Sharpsville; two sisters, Ruth Ellen Wagg and husband, Erik, of Greely, Colo., and Wendy Kay Hilson and husband, John, of Meadville; also a niece, Chloe Hilson, and nephew, Jack Hilson.

She is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Carter Gills, who passed away on Nov. 20, 2013.

Family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m.
