Carolyn Ann Cox Johnson passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Conroe with her family by her side after battling brain cancer for three years. Carolyn was born December 7, 1940 in McCaskill, Arkansas, the daughter of A. B. and Wenona Cox. She married the love of her life, Thomas J. Johnson and was married 57 years. This union produced four children: Laura Ellen Croston, Cathryn Sue Moody, Andrew B. Johnson and Melissa Marie Wochy. As a military wife, she and Tom lived in several places: the country of Turkey, Cheyenne, WY, Washington, D.C., San Antonio, TX, Bryan, TX, and Baytown, TX. The couple retired in Conroe, TX. Grandma loved to have the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around all the time. She enjoyed the sounds of happiness they made throughout her life. It brought her joy and excitement to see a dance recital, piano recital, a soccer game and swimming meets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn said: "I want everyone to know that the joy of my life besides Tom has been my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all my wonderful, fun babies and watching as they grow! I've always enjoyed all the places I served in the churches we were privileged to join. I never thought of it as 'work'." Carolyn's extra activities were a joy to her: She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was involved in the Piney Point Stitching. She loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She started the Peacemakers quilting organization, at both Mims Baptist Church and West Conroe Baptist Church, making quilts for people in the hospitals. She sewed blankets, onesies, hats and socks for the premature babies at Woodlands Memorial Hermann Hospital. She and Tom were members of Sam's Slow Pokes RV Club and traveled 95% of the states, having great times and lots of fun with good friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, A. B. and Wenona Cox, her daughter, Laura Ellen Croston and grandson, Thomas Joe Dean.Carolyn is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Johnson, her children, Cathy and Dwight Moody of Conroe, TX, Andrew and Charlotte Johnson of College Station, TX, Melissa and Randy Wochy of Katy, TX, and son-in-law Wyn and Vickie Croston of Conroe, TX. Her grandchildren are Abby and Peter McDonald, Melanie and Dave Koscienski, Michael and Lauren Johnson, Matthew and Alyssa Johnson, Mark Johnson, Blake Moody, J.P. Villareal, and Sarah and Chris Richmond. Surviving great-grandchildren are Leah, Emily and Zoey McDonald, Wesley and Justin Koscienski, Prue Collins and Caleb Johnson. Her Brother's in Law Russel Johnson of Amarillo, Tx and Murrel and Maxine Johnson of Lubbock, Tx. She is sorely missed by many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, 2014 at 10:00am at West Conroe Baptist Church with Dr. Jay Gross and Pastor Peter McDonald officiating.
