Raymond McConnell

Funeral services for Raymond Lewis McConnell, 64, of Route 2, LaPlata, will be held at two o'clock this afternoon (Sunday, May 20, 1984) in Hudson-Rimer Park View Memorial Chapel, Kirksville. Bob Schofield of Clarence, will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Mrs. Kyle Cooper, organist and Harold Moyer, soloist. Selections will be, "In The Garden" and "Precious Memories." Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery west of Novelty.

Mr. McConnell died at 8:34 Friday morning (May 18, 1984) in Laughlin Osteopathic Hospital where he had been a patient two weeks.

Born in the Locust Hill community on January 5, 1920, he was the son of Guy and Stella Cole McConnell. On February 27, 1938, at Brashear, he married Hazel Ruth Harris who survives. Also surviving are his father, Guy McConnell of the LaPlata Nursing Home; one brother, Carl McConnell of LaPlata and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1971.

Mr. McConnell had lived in Knox County in the Novelty and Locust Hill communities until 1968 when he moved to LaPlata. He was a self-employed contractor and was an electrician and plumber before his retirement.

During World War II, Mr. McConnell served with the United States Armed Forces. During his military career he was in the European theater and was a prisoner of war.

Mr. McConnell was a private pilot and a flying enthusiast. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Bearers will be : Joe McConnell, Leroy McConnell, Allen McConnell, Gerald Harris, J. D. Harris and Cecil Harris.
