* Was five years old when his mother died. Raised by his Father and an older sister, Ellenor.
* Worked long hours raising livestock and farming during both World Wars and The Depression
* Walked to Leland daily to pick tomatoes for $1.50 a day.
* Had jobs at Del Monte Cannery, a sugar factory, and the Utah County Road Crew.
* Had a small herd of cattle that he raised. Did his farming the old-fashioned way and resisted new machinery.
* Very frugal. Didn't need "things", always wore overalls out. Liked having a couple of dollars in his pocket for buying candy bars.
* Liked to deer hunt and camped a few times a year.
* Liked to go see the deer up Spanish Fork canyon in the winter.
*Welcomed the HomeTeachers and liked joking with Jane's visiting teachers. Donated money to church projects when asked.
* Was very unselfish with the family. Butchered his own cattle to supply his children's families with meat. Gave $10 bills to grandchildren at Christmas.
*Very tenderhearted with grandchildren and loved babies. Teased and flirted with some of the granddaughters.
* Loved black licorice and orange slices.
* A man of very few words. Didn't like to talk on the telephone: had Jane dial and talk.
* He was endowed late in life in the Manti Temple.
* Inherited and acquired a lot of land in Spanish Fork that made his sons very wealthy as it was developed.
* Loved television in his old age.
* Was a hardworking, honest and honorable man.
* When he was dying (in 1993) he said to his granddaughter, Suzee Evans, "Come see Ellenor and meet mother." Daniel was just five years old when Rosabel died. Ellenor was the sister who had raised Daniel after Rosabel's death.
