Fred A. Dyer was a Master Steamboat Captain. He was born in Missouri in 1836. Captain Dyer came to the Pacific Coast in 1869. First running the steamer, Mary Woodruff. In 1884 he built the steamer, James McNaught, at Seattle and captained it for four years. He also served on the steamer,Island Belle for a short time and the stearmer, Teaser, on the Vistoria and Westminster route. He finally retired to a ranch in Lyman, WA. He was the husband of Grace E. Dyer and father of Frank and Fred H.
