Marlow - ARTHUR J. "A.J." ALEXANDER, 82, of Marlow, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, in Lawton.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Nease officiating and Larry Scott giving a tribute to A.J. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
A.J. was born Nov. 9, 1923, in the Hope Community, to Edgar Erby and Mina Parker Alexander. He married Margrette Tucker Alexander on Aug. 6, 1995, in Terrell, Texas.
He attended school at Hope and Bray, then served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 27, 1942 to Dec. 4, 1945 in the 419th Escort Guard and was awarded the Good Conduct medal and the Eastern Theater Medal with one Bronze Star. He then served in the National Guard as a sergeant.
A.J. was a used car dealer most of his life, along with employment at Sunray, Halliburton and as a police officer for the City of Duncan. He had a great love for western swing music and had the opportunity to sing and record with the Texas Playboys. He was instrumental in getting Bob Wills honored on a U.S. Postal Service stamp. He was a lifetime member of Hope Church.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Margrette Alexander of Marlow; two stepsons: Randy Tucker and wife Nancy of Tempe, Ariz., and Steve Tucker and wife Alice of Sugar Land, Texas; a brother, Earl Alexander and wife Dottie of Duncan; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother. E.E. Alexander Jr.; and two sisters: Cleo Collins and Jewel Davis.
Bearers will be Bill Davis, Dr. Wylie Davis, Cody Davis, Greg Alexander, Wade Alexander and Jeff Mangum.
