Lloyd Henry Gibbs Jr., 55, of Ardmore, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.


Lloyd was born Aug. 11, 1958, to Lloyd Henry Gibbs Sr. and Ruby Jean (Eason) Gibbs at Ardmore. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1976. During school, Lloyd worked for TG&Y. After graduation, he worked at Max's Wholesale. In January 1981, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country in the aviation field, both stateside and overseas in Beirut and Lebanon, and received many awards and medals during his service, including the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Combat Action Medal. He attended the Marine NCO School, and was honorably discharged as a corporal in September 1986 and returned to Ardmore.


He found work in Fort Worth, Texas, with General Dynamics and with Lockheed-Martin for six years. He moved back to Ardmore in 1993 and worked for the city of Ardmore and for Mercy of Ardmore. He married Frances Bernice Jeffcoats on Oct. 7, 1995, at Ardmore. Lloyd enjoyed attending air shows with his wife, going for drives in his truck around the county, being outdoors and cooking on the grill for his family. He loved eating turtle pie. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Lloyd is survived by his wife, of the home; daughter Frances "Sugar" Bowser and friend, Chad Boydston, of Ardmore; sons Tomey D. Turner and wife, Amy, of Fort Worth, Texas, and James Gibbs and wife, Sarah, of Ardmore; six grandchildren, MyKayla, Stevion, Hudson, Zoie, Rebecca and Jocelyn; sister Crese Cockerham and husband, Robert, of Weatherford, Texas; three nieces, Lyndsey, Jessica and Mikayla; special friends Leon VanPelt and wife, Jan, Kevin VanPelt and wife, Cindy, and Phillip VanPelt and wife, Denise, and their families.


A visitation will be today 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Hillcrest.
