David was born to Lucy (Pugh) and Luther Monroe of Exline, Iowa.

(Byron is the his correct middle name listed on both the death certificate and army records).

He had a brother Kendall and sister Velma.

On page 90 of the Exline History 1996 book there is a class photo of David. He graduated from Exline High School in 1923 (Top row reader's far right).

He is listed with picture (age 39) in 1942 on page 221 of the Exline History 1996. Beneath his picture it Says, "Tech Sgt David B. Monroe,, 39, Exline son of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Monroe, wife Jean; trained in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, now with the Signal Corps in Ireland: former farmer"

Later he moved to St. Louis, Missouri.

He father a daughter on January 21, 1953 with Ethel Minerva Porter-Bernhardt. Note: He was not married to Ethel.

I remember him as a quiet, soft spoken, friendly and well groomed gentleman.

David would come over every Saturday night and watch the Perry Como Show with mother and I.

He is the grandfather of Michael John Haslett (deceased 2013), Brian and Sean and the great grandfather of Alexis Haslett.

He died July 5, 1965 of a heart attack and was laid to rest 07/08/1965 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Plot E 0 221
