ATTENDED FUNERAL OF SGT. VANCE MONDAY
Miss LaVerne Rockwell and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Parkinson attended the funeral of their cousin, Sgt. Oliver Vance in Fort Worth, Monday, January 31. Sgt. Vance who was in the Army Air Corps, was killed in a plane crash at Langley Field, Virginia, January 22. He was twenty-eight years old and had been in the service of his country for over a year.
Sgt. Vance is survived by his wife, the former Miss Oleta Rockwell, who was reared in Hood County. Two brothers also survive. His mother passed away two months ago. On Janury [sic] 20 Mrs. Vance received a letter from her husband stating that he would be home on January 28, expecting a furlough at that time. The date coincided with the arrival of his body in Fort Worth. The Chaplain from the Ft. Worth Army Air Field conducted the funeral service and there was a military escort. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
SSGT Vance was serving with the 3012 Bomb Group (H), 355 Bomb Squadon (H) at the time of his death.
