A son, David Henry Small, his parents and six sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Mourning his death are his wife of 57 years, Clarice Wilkins Small; three sons, Richard LeRoy Small of Conroe, Tom Michael Small and wife Catherine of Pleasanton, California, and Douglas Wilkins Small of Conroe; two grandchildren, Jason Douglas Small of Galveston and Grace Meredith Small of Pleasanton, CA.; also a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Carolyn Wilkins of Bryan; many nieces and nephews, including Phillip Wilkins of Bryan.

During a time in the Philippines he was given a Field Commission by Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Upon returning to Texas he became a member of the 49th Armored Division as a Captain and served there for several years. In recent years he enjoyed his friendship with many at The Gathering Place at First Methodist Church and those who lovingly cared for him at The Harbour at Hearthstone. The family also wishes to thank the nurses at Conroe Regional Hospital and Conroe Health Care Center.
