Mr. John Winton Sims of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at his residence. He was born October 27, 1926, in Walton County, Florida, to Sam and Sally Mae Sims.
John lived in DeFuniak Springs all his childhood years, and after graduating from Walton High School, he moved to Ivan, Louisiana, and became employed with the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation. He later returned to DeFuniak Springs where he met and married Peggy H. Griffith Sims.
After his marriage to Peggy, they spent the next nine years of their life as travel agents, organizing tours. They traveled extensively, and made it possible for many people in this community and surrounding area to tour much of the United States and some foreign countries.
John and Peggy worked tirelessly for Christmas Reflections in DeFuniak Springs, an annual event that continues to bring much enjoyment to area residents and visitors.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Sally Mae Sims; his wife, Peggy Hudson Sims; one brother, Sam L. Sims; and one sister, Edna Louise Broxon.
John is survived by one son, one daughter, two step-sons, four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral: 11:00am, Friday, November 6, 2009, in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, Reverends Rob West and Jimmy Mashburn officiating.
Visitation: one hour prior to the funeral.
Committal: at the Glendale Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
