Clarifications on Discrepancies from Other Sources:

BIRTH of 15 December 1759, NC vs. IRELAND:

Emily Galloway Lester, via the 1908 booklet by Irene Dabney Gallaway, "Matthew Gallaway and his Descendants" was the source for Matthew's exact birthdate of 15 December 1759. There is no reason thus far to doubt its accuracy and it seems to fit within his known census records.

Emily, via Irene's booklet, was also the source for Matthew's place of birth in Ireland, as well as "family lore" being that his father was (allegedly) "Tait Galloway" and that Matthew "emigrated to America as a young lad prior to the Revolutionary War."

PARENTS AND BIRTH LOCATION:

Tait Galloway and Ann Gibson as his parents have been proven incorrect.

Granddaughter Emily Galloway Lester, who was born after Matthew died, and his then elderly widow simply got it wrong or had a miscommunication.

Various sources cite his place of birth as Ireland, VA, NC, SC, and GA. He was likely b/ in NC.

Matthew's military service has not yet been proven, but that does not mean he did not serve. DAR has closed the line stating that the GA Land Lottery was disorganized so does not constitute proof of service. They now require more substantial evidence such as a pay stub.

Nonetheless, evidence points to his being born in America, and namely NC, so there was no "emigration just prior to the American Revolution," whether he served or didn't serve.

DEATH DATE of 1 Feb. 1824 vs. 14 Feb. 1824:

Various sources, including Irene's book, state that Matthew died 14 Feb 1824. Shortly after Matthew died, Mary East Galloway joined a few of her sons in Lawrence Co, AL where they had moved before 1820.

On 10 Dec 1824, both Wiley Galloway and Mary East Galloway filed affidavits there stating that Matthew Galloway died on 1 Feb. 1824.

---------------

WIVES:

Mary Polly East is allegedly Matthew's 2nd wife and is NOT the mother of his linked son William Galloway.

The 1908 booklet published by Irene Dabney Gallaway, "Matthew Gallaway and his Descendants" claims his first wife was Miss Beaver and "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia" (pg. 214) claims she was "--- Beaver."

Their original sources for his first wife as a Beaver is not known and her identity has not been proven in modern times.
-------------

NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE HENRY CO, ALABAMA GALLOWAYS:

Matthew's son William who married Mary Polly RAGAN, is NOT to be confused with a different William Galloway who lived in Henry Co, Alabama!
