Donald J. Baker, of Sullivan, passed away Saturday, March 6, 1999, at the age of 78 years.
Mr. Baker was born June 26, 1920, at Charlotte, Michigan, to the late Merle and Pearl (Clapper) Baker. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, from 1941 until 1945, with the 978th Field Artillery Battalion, and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze stars.
While stationed in Fort Leonard Wood , he met Alice Williamson, and they were married February 5, 1943, and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Mr. Baker was employed 32 years as General foreman for the farmer Ramsey Corporation.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing, but his great joy in life came from his family. Mr Baker was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a man of honor and integrity.
He professed his faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized in March, 1972, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Sullivan. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Sullivan, one son, Don D. Baker, and wife Patricia, of Sullivan, two daughters, Susan Hinson and husband, Pastor Richard Hinson, of St. Clair, Mo. and Judith Corethers and husband, Ed. Of Sullivan, one brother, Roger Moore and wife, Carol. Of Lady Lake, Fl. One sister, Pauline Ingman and husband, Abe of Flint, Mi., twelve grandchildren, Alan Fallon of Bourbon, Kris Strauser, Pastor David Dixon and Wife, Tabitha, of Benton, Ar., Pastor Brian Dixon and wife Krista, of Tallula, Ill., Douglas, Laura, and Brandon Baker on Sullivan, Autumn Hooper and husband, Leonard of St. Louis, Joshua, EIlzabeth and Kathleen Hinson, and Rhonda Fallon, all of St. Clair, seven great-grandchildren, Jordon and Kylie Strauser, Steven Fallon, Sable, Sierra and Sophia Dixon, and David Paul Dixon II, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 9, 1999, from First Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Brian Dixon officiating. Interment was in New Rock Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo.
