Announcement in the news paper:: Clinton Missouri, Jun 16 1906 - John F. Hurst, who lived northeast of Hortense and was in Clinton Saturday afternoon, ended his life Monday afternoon by taking strychnine. His wife was out in the garden at work when she heard a strange noise in the house and rushed in, to find her husband in convulsions, from which he died. He was about 55 and was highly spoken of by his neighbors and leaves his devoted wife to mourn his loss. A bottle of Strychnine was found and a note he had written, as follows: "I have taken poison. Good-bye. John. My watch is at Sams & Waddell's." Burial at Tebo. Information taken from the Tebo Cemetery listing.
