The funeral for Verla Giedd, 79, of Devils Lake, formerly of Minnewaukan, was held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Interment was in the Minnewaukan Cemetery. She died Oct. 12, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Rev. Betty Stedman officiated. Fay Huffman was organist and Claudette Carlson was soloist. Pallbearers were Fred Sharbano, Paul Streifel, Jimmy Olson, Dick Horner, Jim Wang and Lloyd Burgess. The Nelson Funeral Home of Minnewaukan was in charge of arrangements.
Verla Elaine Giedd was born May 14, 1922 at Sheyenne to Walter and Susan Jane Hood Comer. She was raised near Sheyenne and attended school near Sheyenne and high school at Maddock. On Aug. 15, 1944 she married Willard Giedd in Devils Lake. After their marriage they made their home in Devils Lake until moving to a farm on Graham's Island, were they lived for 55 years. They also managed the Tri-County Park (later Graham's Island State Park) for six years. They retired and moved to Devils Lake in 1998.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dale Giedd of Devils Lake; a daughter, Cheryl Giedd-Ludwig and her husband Tim, of Minot; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary; and a brother, Kenneth Comer on Feb. 23,2000.
