June B. Gibson, 89, of Athens, died Friday morning, January 31, 2014 at her home. Born May 30, 1924 in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the former Sheriff, the late George Bateman and the late Agnes Wilkinson Bateman. She was a graduate of Nelsonville High School and retired from the Athens County Court House after 37 years of service having worked in the sheriffs and auditors office. She was an avid sports fan having attended Athens High School sporting events for many years. She is survived by two sons, Fred (Pat) Gibson of The Plains, Larry (Debbie) Gibson of Athens; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Alma Shields of Athens; a brother, Tom (Cynthia) Bateman of Athens. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gibson; three brothers, Ross, Dick, and George Bateman; and a sister, Lois Ferrell. Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Kline officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
