H. M. Rhyne

CHINA GROVE - Herbert Mert Rhyne, 84, of 301 West Ketchie street, a Kannapolis barber, died suddenly at his home at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. R. 0. Brinkley. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. The body will remain at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home until taken to the church at 2:30 p.m. to lie in state 30 minutes pnor to services.

Mr. Rhyne was bom April 6, 1901 in Gaston County, son of Mrs. Lucy Rhyne of Kannapolis and the late Herbert L. Rhyne. For the past 40 years he had been a barber in Kannapolis, and at the time of his death was associated with W. P. Cook in operating the Rhyne Barber Shop. He was well-known as an avid fisherman and checker-player. Mr. Rhyne attended the First Baptist Church in China Grove.

In 1926 he married the former Miss Bertha Safrit, who survives. Other survivors in addition to his mother include a brother, John Rhyne of Kannapolis; four sisters, Mrs. Raymond Barker. Mrs. B. A. Bost and Mrs. Pruitt Rainey, all of Kannapolis, and Mrs. Heath Harrison of Concord.
