Artist. A photographer and British Royal Family member, he was born Thomas Patrick John Anson, and his mother was a first cousin to Queen Elizabeth II. He inherited the earldom of Lichfield upon the death of his grandfather in 1959. Three years later, much to his family's displeasure, he took a job as a photographer's assistant, shortening his professional moniker to Patrick Lichfield. He used his family connections and his legendary charm to become a favorite photographer among the aristocracy and the glitterati. Lichfield's lens captured many of the signature images of swinging London. Still, his shots of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding, for which he was the official photographer, may remain his best-remembered. Active until his final day, he suffered a stroke while visiting friends in Oxford in November 2005.
