Seneca Falls - Joseph L. Poole, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Seneca Falls, N.Y., on Wednesday (January 22, 2014).

Family and friends can call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, N.Y. on Saturday (January 25) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Funeral Service to immediately follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in St. Columbkille Cemetery in Seneca Falls.

Military Honors for Joe will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday (Janu ary 25) immediately following the funeral service.
Joe was born on October 6, 1929, in Seneca Falls, the son of the late Joseph P. and Mary Holland Poole. He was a devoted son and was a life resident of Seneca Falls. After attending St. Patrick's School, he graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1947. He honorably served his country overseas during the Korean War and then received a bachelor of arts from the Hobart College in 1954. Joe was employed for over 45 years by Finger Lakes Race Track since it opened in 1962. He also worked at numerous other thoroughbred tracks in Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky each winter. Joe was inducted into the Mynderse Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1946 football team. He remained active his entire life playing tennis and golf. He was an avid reader who was especially interested and knowledgeable in military history. His many friends will also attest to his skills at just about any card game.

Joe was the only brother to his three beloved sisters. He is survived by: Aileen Staudmyer of Rome, N.Y., and Mary Lee Miller of Seneca Falls, and was predeceased by Jane Hanlin of Seneca Falls.

Joe was a life long bachelor who played a huge role in the lives of his eleven nieces and nephews. Uncle Joe was loved dearly by Gerald Staudmyer, Joan Staudmyer, Molly (Hanlin) Murphy, Mary Jo (Staudmyer) Ciccotti, Nancy (Hanlin) Marino, Kay (Staudmyer) Cooke, Kathy (Hanlin) Felice, Sheila (Hanlin) DeRue, David Miller, Karen Miller and Robert Miller. He also was very involved in the lives of all twenty-six of his great nieces and nephews.
