Robert was born on July 22, 1917 in Green City, MO to Charlie & Stella (Mosbey) DeVore. Robert was the oldest of eight siblings.
On August 24, 1940 Robert married Delia Thelma Youst. They were blessed with ten children, Burneta, Bernice, Robert, Wendell, Jackie, Charles, Louise, Rex, Cary, and Ruby. Robert and Thelma celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death in 2001.
Robert had a variety of occupations over the years to support his growing family. He farmed for a time north of Promise City and later on a farm south of Seymour. Robert also operated a store in Jerome, Iowa for a few years. Robert cleaned many wells on farms around the area and his equipment was used when building Rathbun Dam to dig relief wells below the dam.
Robert always had a gold coin or two in his pocket and loved to share a story with anyone who had the time to listen. He spent many a day walking the hills of southern Iowa hunting Indian artifacts.
Robert was preceded in death by wife Thelma, parents Charlie & Stella, son Charles, grandchildren David Houser, Donna Jean Guerrero, and Rick DeVore, sisters Virginia Wilmo, and Carrie Hull, brothers Bernard , Maurice, and Ivan DeVore, son-in-law Donald Houser, brothers-in-law- Roy Wilmot, Roy Hull, and Charles McIntire.
He is survived by his children, Burneta & husband Donald Sales, Bernice Houser, Robert DeVore & wife Wortha, Wendell DeVore & wife Janet, Jackie DeVore & friend Roland, Louise & husband Mike Maiers, Rex DeVore, Cary DeVore & wife Brenda, Ruby & husband Gilbert Garza, sisters Dorothy McIntire and Betty & husband Rex Peterson and brother Dale & wife Mary Helen DeVore and sister-in-law Carlene DeVore. Robert is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Jones Cemetery north of Promise City.
