Sophronia‘s obituary, published Jul 2, 1937 (source: Blue Earth County Historical Society in Mankato, MN): Rites for Mrs. John Rupert On Thursday -- On Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at her home on First street, funeral services will be held for Mrs. John Rupert who passed away Monday afternoon at four o'clock. Rev. William Ripon of Zumbrota assisted by Rev. W. Sterns will officiate and interment will be made in the family lot in Union cemetery. The death of Mrs. Rupert takes from our community another of those who have lived in Mapleton since it very early days. It was fifty years ago next month that she and her husband came here to live and all through the years she has been one of our best loved mothers. Mrs. Rupert has been in failing health for several years. Her son Will and daughter Clover have given her a most living devotion and just recently she has enjoyed visits from her daughter, Mrs. Maude Foisy of Prosser and her son Henry of Yakima, Washington. A stroke last week, from which she never rallied, brought her peaceful sleep. Mrs. Rupert's maiden name was Sophronia Plonty and she was born Feb. 15, 1855 in St. Lawrence county, New York. Here she spent her girlhood days, attending the school of her district. In 1871 the Plonty family moved to Spring Valley, Minnesota, and it was there on Nov. 18, 1874 she was married to John Rupert. For nearly three years they lived in Spring Valley but in August 1877 came to Mapleton and established their home where she has since resided. Mr. Rupert passed away several years ago and she is survived by her five children, Henry Rupert of Yakima, Washington; Mrs. Maude Foisy and Ben Rupert of Prosser, Washington; Will and Clover Rupert at home. Five children preceded her in death, four of them in infancy and one daughter, Sadie, who reached later years. She is also mourned by two sisters, Mrs. Hendershott of Spring Valley and Mrs. Losey of Preston.
