Mrs. Callie Smith McCorkle, 80, died Wednesday night at Edgecombe General Hospital. She was born in Pitt County, April 27, 1884, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bryant P. Smith.
She had been a resident of Rocky Mount for more than 50 years and was married to the J. V. McCorkle.
Surviving are two sisters, Miss Bessie Smith of Rocky Mount and Mrs. Maggie Walker of Tarboro; a brother, Rufus Smith of Rocky Mount: three half-sisters, Mrs. Mattie Norville of Ahoskie, Mrs. Leonell Biggs of Raleieh, and Mrs. Bertha Glass of Raleigh; a half-brother, Glenn W. Smith of LaGrange; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. H. C. Lowder, pastor of Arlington Street Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the home of her niece, Mrs. A. J. Camp bell of 1801 Bedford Road.
