Gilbert Weldon Twitty was called up January 4, 2014 at the youthful age of 79 and was surrounded on his deathbed both by personages and prayers from loving friends and family at the Orange City Hospice in Volusia County, Florida.

Funeral services for Gilbert will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Lohman Funeral Home Deland. The visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 from the hours of 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with interment to follow at a later date.

Gilbert, a Navy man of twenty years, went on to kick start his own kite-flying business, name of UFO Kites, that was trucked up and down Flagler beach, Marineland, and the other various sand dunes of beaches that lined the A1A state road. Not only was his business raised from the ground on the 100 degree sands, but his children grew like beloved weeds on these shores as well.

A loving father and once husband, a coarse fisher and wayward adventurer, a talented teacher and practiced cook, Gilbert was a jolly wine-loving man of strict military standards and to do things that were not his way warranted reprimand and doing it all over. He comforted and cared for his children, whether close or strung far beyond a personal visit, and throughout the rest of his life he showed the same trying level of dedication and fatherliness.

He is survived by Donnie, Carisa, Christine, Dwayne and Paula Twitty, and his twin, Darrell Twitty, along with various cousins and the like.

His surviving grandchildren are as follows: Haden Riles, Austin Twitty and Chase Twitty.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donation to be made to Hospice of Volusia/ Flagler.
