On Sept. 1, 1961, Carole Lea Chase, 20, of New Hampshire, a recent graduate of that state's Pembroke Academy, died with three friends when their California-bound TWA Constellation airliner "Star of Dublin" crashed shortly after takeoff from an intermediate stop at Midway Airport in Chicago.

The crash claimed 78 lives, all passengers and crew of the fast luxury liner. The case was, briefly, the greatest loss of life in the crash of a single airplane in U.S. airline history.
