David Terry Best
POOLER - David Terry Best, 69, of Pooler, died Tuesday at Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Brunswick, Ga., and was preceded in death by his parents, David Johnson Best and Alma Lee Moore Best, and his sister, Evelyn Best Culbertson. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, and Armstrong State College, with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, during the Vietnam Conflict. Terry was retired from Memorial Medical Center, after 40 years of service, as a Medical Technologist in the Lab. At the age of 17, Terry started teaching 9 year old boys on Easter Sunday, at Taliaferro Baptist Church, and worked with children for 52 years. Terry was Ordained as a Deacon at Taliaferro Baptist Church, when he got back from having served in the U.S. Air Force, and he was the youngest person ever to be ordained as a Deacon, at Taliaferro Baptist Church. When the church closed, he affiliated with Silk Hope Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Board of Deacons, served as a Sunday School Teacher, taught Royal Ambassadors, Vacation Bible School, he was a Disciple Maker teaching children, he served as Treasurer of the Board of Deacons, was the Church Photographer, and he Videoed the Christmas Cantatas, and planned the Easter Egg hunts at the Church for the Children. He was a Charter Member of the Bible Society, where he gave out over 1000 Bibles to Children, and he was an Avid Gardner. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlene Howell Best, of Pooler, GA; 3 sons, Steven A. Best (Jenny) of Savannah, GA; Jimmy A. Best (Audrey) of Vidalia, GA; and Andy C. Best (Brandi) of Pooler, GA; brother, Robert Bobby Best, of Savannah, GA; 6 grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Jeremy, Derek, Drew and Gabe. Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory in Garden City, GA. Funeral Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Silk Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Jonathan Phillips and Rev. Grady Walden, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, 1600 Wheaton St., Savannah, GA 31404. Terry will be taken to Silk Hope Baptist Church to lie in state Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Remembrances: Silk Hope Baptist Church - Vacation Bible School Fund.
